Back on the Path

Path Forward

There are some things that I learned more about than I would of normally. The detour was a success of sorts, I am working through some of the ISO 20000 training materials. My training will be put on LinkedIn and I will let you know more about that when I finish. Learning more about the ISO 20000 standard opened my eyes to a future that I might want to have as a CISO or CIO.

There is some more thought to a future career as an IT Manager. This would be a stepping stone to do more project management and more Agile and Lean Six Sigma methodologies. I plan to work on another three certifications as career milestones. These certifications include the GIAC Security Professional, PMI-ACP, which is the Agile Certified Practitioner, and the CCISO from EC-Council.

Career Milestones

The main three career milestones are the CCIE, the CISSP and the CEH. I have an additional three to add that I have been thinking about doing as 7 or 10 year goals. The GIAC Security Professional is a seven year goal along with the PMI-ACP for an end date of 4-8-32. For the CCISO, I have made it a career milestone and a ten year goal at an end date of 4-8-35. These six career goals will push me to be more of a CISO or CIO.

GIAC Security Professional

For the GIAC Security Professional I will be doing five certifications that will allow me to wrap up the certification. These will be the GSEC, GPEN, GISP, GX-CS, and GX-PT. This allows for me to specialize in Network Penetration Testing in addition to other certifications. This will push me to get the CISSP and CEH for instance. Along with other certifications, I will be wanting to specialize in Network Defense and Network Penetration Testing.

PMI-ACP and CCISO

The Project Management Institute Agile Certified Practitioner will push me to expand into Agile based methodologies. This will be helpful with the business side of being a CISO and so will the EC-Council CCISO certification. These two will need some certifications like the PMP, CISA, CISM, and the CISSP to be effective. Going more into project management and getting the Certified Chief Information Security Officer certification will prove my skill set with these certifications.

Conclusion

Going down the detour path was successful just for the insight. The GSP will also allow me to go down more of a Network Penetration Tester role. This will still allow me to do a Network Security Engineer skill set. I will be doing the SC-900 on May 1st, 2025. In the next few months, I want to test for the Certified in Cybersecurity and Network+ certifications.
