Building my Knowledge
I am building my knowledge and the GSEC is what I am focused on for the rest of the year. I am studying to take this certification next year in February or March. There are some things that I am doing with my study plan. This is to focus more on the Certified in Cybersecurity and the Security+ training materials. For now, I am working on the YouTube ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity Free Course 2025 video.
The YouTube course is the last item of the Certified in Cybersecurity training. This is out of what I will do for the GSEC study. I am more focused on the Security+ training materials. With me being more consistent with my training, I will be able to work on my part-time writer role. This will allow me to still get done with the training around January of 2026.
I have been reading the Security+ book, the AWS Cloud Practitioner book in addition to the CySA+ book. The book that I am currently reading is the CompTIA CySA+ Study Guide Exam CS0-003 book that is the 21st book this year. Out of the items on the GSEC study plan I have some more work on the reading left to do. I also bought the Udemy Network Security Course that was also on my list.
Training
I have been thinking more about my training to where I am close to finishing the Learn to Code in Ruby and the Technical Writing courses on Udemy. These two will give me some ability to work on more programming and writing training materials. I am looking at doing a Python course and maybe an editing course to fill in my gap in those two subjects.
I’m doing more work on YouTube and on Beacon. This is to get more training on my GSEC playlist and the Palo Alto Cybersecurity Apprentice course on Beacon. I am doing the training for CCNP ENCOR while interested in the PSAA from TCM Security if I have more time.
Writing
There are some things that I am doing to do more writing on Medium like this blog, aaronwdejong.net and my second blog, aaron597.com. Publishing some more articles on Medium through my Aaron W. DeJong IT Articles promotion on Medium. I am doing more writing and editing oriented training to train myself on how to get those accomplished.
For aaron597.com, I am doing more of a platform for me to do my Network Security Influencer type of content. This is something that is helping me do my social media stuff along with the writing that I am doing.
Conclusion
I could progress in my role as a writer as I want to write a book on Network Security. I am getting somewhat used to the idea of being an author and want to write some parts of the book to see if I still want to do it. Thinking of doing non-fiction and stick with the Network Security niche. I’m not sure if I can self-publish a book but I am willing to find out.
