Pursuing and Conquering the CISSP

Passing the CCNA

I have passed the CCNA 200-301 v1.1 exam on the first try. The experience that I had taking the CCNA put my mental health in focus. Needing more time pushed my anxiety a little bit to the wall and I almost didn’t finish the test. With the hands on portion of the exam, I feel that I could of done more and taken less time. It was a good experience although it was draining physically and mentally.

Pursuing the CISSP

By passing the CCNA it has me wanting to do more of a challenge and I’ve decided on pursuing the CISSP. There are some certifications that I will need along with experience. I will conquer this exam given enough time. I am planning on pursuing the CISSP which is one of my three main certifications that also includes the CCIE and CEH.

Some of the CISSP domains that I want to look more into include Network Security, Security Operations, and IAM. I am looking at 10 certifications that will get me up to speed and help me digest the material. This will take some time and will help propel me into my CISSP studies.

Certifications for CISSP study

The certifications that I will be looking at doing are the CompTIA Security+ and CySA+, the SC-900 and SC-300 from Microsoft, and the Cybersecurity Associate from Cisco. In addition to these, I will be pursuing the Certified in Cybersecurity and SSCP from ISC2 in addition to the Cybersecurity Apprentice, Cybersecurity Practitioner and the PCCET from Palo Alto.

Pursuing the CISSP will take me around four or five years in addition to getting the right kind of experience to apply for the certification. For this year, I am still doing the AZ-900 and after will look into four more certifications that would include doing the SC-900 and SC-300 by 12-18-25. For the Cybersecurity Associate I will be doing a goal of passing by 5-22-25 and for the Security+ I have made a goal of passing it by 8-14-25.

Conclusion

The CISSP is an exam that is worth the challenge and I am willing to conquer it by December in 2030. This is my goal and I am pursuing it with these certifications in addition to the actual CISSP exam. I am looking forward to 2025 and will schedule these exams for the five exams that I am willing to pass in 2025. I am still working on my skills and want to sit for the CCNP ENCOR in about a year or two in addition to completing the ACE Associate exam by that time as well.
