Updated Plans for 2025

2025 Plans

There are some things that I am doing to better myself and reestablish my career. In order to get a job I need to work on more job role based certifications. These include both the Security+ and the CCNP ENCOR exams which are the main two that I am studying for. I have decided to work on training for my CISSP this year and have plans to take it in four to five years.

The CISSP needs five years of experience in two or more CISSP domains in order to get the certification. For my studying this year I am doing the training materials for the SC-900, SC-300 and CyberOps Associate. This is in addition to my studying of the Security+ and CCNP ENCOR certifications. I am working on my programming skill set in Terraform, Python, Ruby, and Ansible on CBT Nuggets.

Reading Plans

I am usually wanting to read 45 books or more each year and recently got to the point where I am not trying to hit a certain number but will try to get a more relaxed number of books read. This is to slow down on my training but do better quality training. I finished reading the Security+ book and am now on the SC-900 book which is the second book of the year.

For the third book, I will be reading the CompTIA Tech+ book. The way that I am going about reading this year is to go slower on my books that I buy and do more directed efforts towards the 12 books that I haven’t read yet. After I get through these I will have plans to do more books on Cybersecurity and Computer Networking.

Plans for Future

I have recently been working towards the CISSP training by doing it over the next four or five years. This will be the main milestone goal on my career journey into Network Security. Being a person that is striving to become a CTO, CIO, or CISO eventually I will need to bring some more programming and Cybersecurity skills to the table.

I will be striving towards this goal as I plan on doing my ultimate goal by the time I am 51 which is the average age for CTOs. This is a barometer of how I am doing in my career with the other two main career milestones being the CEH and the CCIE: Enterprise Infrastructure. I am wanting to still do some more certifications like the CCNP Security, PNPT, CND and the OSCP.

Conclusion

The way that I am going with my career goals is tied mostly to the CTO or CISO role when I am around 51. The role that I would like the most is the Network Security Engineer as it deals with more of a Cybersecurity skill set that I plan on getting. I have tried to work on more of a Cloud Engineer or Cloud Networking role and believe more in the Cybersecurity and Computer Networking aspects of Network Security.
